Latest Early Education and Demographic Data
IECAM’s searchable database is the quickest way to access early childhood program and demographic data for several different types of regions in Illinois, such as counties, cities, townships, school districts, zip codes, legislative districts, and Chicago community areas.
Early Childhood Dashboard
Illinois builds on the value that its mixed delivery system should provide universal supports and targeted interventions so that all children receive the supports they need to reach their optimal outcomes. The Early Childhood Dashboard will track the progress of the Illinois strategic goals and objectives.

Data Sources
IECAM collects demographic and early childhood program data from a wide variety of state and federal sources.
ISBE
The Illinois State Board of Education sets educational policies and guidelines for public and private schools, preschool through grade 12. This includes Preschool for All and Prevention Initiative programs.
INCCRRA
The Illinois Network of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (INCCRRA) is a statewide organization that – in partnership with its 16 local Child Care Resources and Referral (CCR&R) agencies – is a recognized leader, catalyst, and resource for making high-quality, affordable early care and education and school-age care options available for children and families in Illinois.
IDHS
The Illinois Department of Human Services is responsible for providing a wide variety of safety net services to Illinois residents in who are in poverty, who are facing other economic challenges, or who have any of a variety of disabilities.
American Community Survey
The American Community Survey (ACS) is a demographics survey program conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. It regularly gathers information previously contained only in the long form of the decennial census, such as race/ethnicity, citizenship, educational attainment, income, language proficiency, migration, disability, employment, and housing characteristics.
Head Start
Head Start, a program of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, provides comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and families.
DCFS
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services protects children who are reported to be abused or neglected. It also works to increase their families’ capacity to safely care for them.
Our Mission
IECAM’s mission is to provide comprehensive early childhood data and maps to local and state agencies and other stakeholders to improve outcomes for Illinois children.
Developed in 2006, IECAM is funded by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS). Our users include policy makers, legislators, administrators, grant writers, educators, early childhood advocates, researchers, and the general public.
